EU Digital Passport Project has produced a new generation of digital passports that meet the latest technology requirements and standards. The aim with EU Digital Passport Project is to develop standards, compliant digital passport with large memory chip and functions, supporting biometrics, with PKI based security and long-life simulation. This passport will function together with new automatic boarder controls and boarding processes inside a proven security concept. The system will make a convenient and secure walk-through boarder passage possible. This will be a completely new and innovative pattern in international travel.
The project stays within all relevant standards (e.g. ICAO, ISO, FIPS). The standards are applicable in a consistent way throughout the project. The project objective is not to demonstrate the industrial applicability of relevant standards over the entire range of their scope, but rather to concentrate on the parts of standards that are relevant to boarder passage situations, e.g. the project is not delved in the applicability of biometric standards to common feature extraction, encoding or storage. Rather, the purpose of demonstrating the interoperability with read/write devices, will be to show that a certain amount of data, whatever they are, can be managed with adequate reliability, security and functional requirements.
Smarticware will also document the applications in form of an incorporated standards report. We also pay strictest attention to efficiently disseminate knowledge to all those who need to know as well as to the general public.
The EU Digital Passport Project provides an excellent match with development of integrated approaches, architectures and technologies for security and mobility, virtual identity management, privacy enhancing both at application level and at infrastructure level. The project provides further aspects of usability as well as socio-economic and regulatory issues that would have to be taken into account. The Digital Passport Project will address all related objectives, as it will result in a standards compliant digital passport and will be a completely new pattern in international travel.
